IELTS Vocabulary — Technology (Band 7+)
Technology is in the top 5 recurring IELTS themes — and the most over-recycled. The candidates who lift their Lexical Resource band don't memorise more terms; they use a small set of precise ones with the right grammar around them.
12 Essential Words
Artificial intelligence. Automation. Screen time. To go viral. Data privacy. Cyber-bullying. Tech-savvy. Digital divide. To log on/off. User-friendly. Social media. Renewable technology.
Model Task 2 Paragraph
"The accelerating spread of artificial intelligence and automation is transforming the labour market faster than education systems can adapt. While tech-savvy graduates may benefit from new roles in renewable technology and data-driven industries, those on the wrong side of the digital divide risk being left behind altogether."
Common Task 2 Prompts
"Automation will eliminate more jobs than it creates — to what extent do you agree?" "Social media has done more harm than good — discuss both views." "Should governments regulate how much personal data tech companies can collect?"
Grammar That Pairs Well
Future continuous and future perfect ("AI will be doing routine medical diagnostics within a decade"), passive voice ("data is collected automatically"), and conditional structures ("if data privacy laws were stricter, public trust would recover"). All three are Band 7+ Grammatical Range markers.
