Can I Retake More Than One IELTS Section? OSR Limits Explained

IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR) is strictly limited to one section per original test, taken once within 60 days. You cannot retake two sections, retake the same section twice, or extend the 60-day window. If you need broader retakes, your only option is a full IELTS resit.

Only One Section Per Original Test

If you scored Listening 7.0, Reading 6.5, Writing 6.0, Speaking 7.5 and need both Reading and Writing higher, OSR cannot fix both. You must either take a full IELTS again, or pick one section to retake via OSR and accept the other.

Only One OSR Attempt Per Original Test

If you OSR Writing and your retake score also drops below your target, you cannot OSR Writing a second time off the same original test. You must take a fresh full IELTS first.

60-Day Window Is Non-Extendable

The 60 days run from your original test date. OSR centres cannot extend it for any reason. Book OSR within the first 30 days to leave buffer for last-minute slot changes.

What Happens If My OSR Score Drops?

You receive a new Test Report Form (TRF) for the retake plus the original TRF. You choose which to send to institutions. Universities and immigration accept either, but most candidates only send the higher one.
