IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR) — Complete Guide 2026
IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR) lets you retake a single section of a computer-delivered IELTS test within 60 days of your original test, without redoing all four skills. Launched globally between 2022 and 2024, OSR is now available in 50+ countries through both British Council and IDP.
Eligibility
You must have taken your original IELTS as a computer-delivered test (paper-based candidates cannot use OSR). You must book the OSR within 60 days of your original test date, at the same test centre or an OSR-enabled centre in the same country.
What You Can Retake
You can retake exactly one of the four skills: Listening, Reading, Writing, or Speaking. You receive a new Test Report Form showing your retake score for that skill plus your original scores for the other three.
Fees
OSR fees vary by country, typically US$200–US$255 — slightly less than a full IELTS retake. Fee is paid to whichever partner (British Council or IDP) ran your original test.
What If My Retake Score Drops?
You receive both Test Report Forms (original and retake). You choose which one to send to universities or immigration. Most candidates only ever send the higher report.
How to Book
Log in to your IELTS account at British Council or IDP within 60 days of your test. OSR availability shows in the booking flow if you are eligible. Book early — popular dates fill quickly in major UK and India centres.
